Start of Year Digital Learning Checklist

Blackboard module sites checklist

Get access to your site. Every module occurrence should be supported by a Blackboard module site. You can request a Blackboard site or, if the site exists and you need access, update the module leader information if you are the module leader to gain access, or contact the current module leader to enrol you as a member of the teaching team.

Enrol staff that need access to your site.

When developing your Blackboard site, ensure that it complies with the Threshold Standards for Supporting Learning with Technology.

Add and update content. Blackboard Ultra has a simple to use Copy Tool making it easy to copy content across from previous module sites. However, do not copy any existing or create any new summative coursework submission points.

Get your site assessment ready:

  • Submission points and grade columns are automatically set up at the start of the year for both first sit and reassessments based on information in SITS. Please check these carefully and follow the assignment set up guidance if any corrections to the set up of submission points in Blackboard are required.
  • Ensure Turnitin is enabled on submission points before students begin submitting as similarity reports cannot be generated retrospectively.
  • Consider adding a marking rubric to assist students in understanding what is expected to meet the requirements of an assignment.
  • Set up any formative assessments or Blackboard Tests as required.

Set up any required groups, e.g. for group work, or to filter Gradebook to support marking.

Consider using collaborative activtites to engage students, e.g. Discussions, Conversations, or Collaborative Documents.

Ensure students can access your Panopto content:

Create an announcement welcoming students to the module.

Make sure that students can access your site.
