Advance HE Fellowship

Advance HE Fellowship is a nationally recognised indicator of professional achievement for higher education practitioners. It confers the right to use the titles Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow and Principal Fellow.

Fellowship is achieved by demonstrating how your practice in teaching and/or supporting learning in HE meets the criteria laid out within the Professional Standards Framework (PSF 2023).

Changes to applying for Fellowship

The University is changing the process of staff applying for Fellowship.

A refreshed offer called Recognising Teaching Excellence will begin in Summer 2026 for staff interested in submitting a fellowship application during the 2026/27 academic year. Support will be provided through a new cohort model which has been used successfully for Principal Fellows in the past, and is now being rolled out for all Fellowship levels.

Please read the guidance pages on this site for more information or email recognitionofteaching@shu.ac.uk if you have any questions.
