Ultra User Interface

From January 9th, 2026, there will be changes to how you navigate Blackboard module and organisation sites, along with a refreshed look and feel. These enhancements are designed to help you find what you need faster, reduce clicks, and make every interaction simpler and more efficient.

User interface components:

The “X” to exit a Blackboard site has been replaced with a Home button (1). The Home button will return you to the Institution Page.

To return directly to your list of module or organisation sites, use the “Course Switcher” (2). The Course Switcher lists the last four recently accessed courses and a View All option

The navigation bar (3) has been moved above the site banner which now automatically displays the name of id of the Blackboard site (4). Use the navigation bar to move between different pages of your Blackboard site such as announcements, messages, and groups. The site banner displays the title and id of the Blackboard site.

Module Content (4) is the main page where you can design and add content to your module site. It is automatically pre-populated with the university standard template which includes areas for your module information, a private area for staff and external examiners, and areas for assessments and reassessments.

In Details & Actions (5) you can access a range of tools to assist in the management of your site, such as enrolling staff, looking up student extensions, or viewing the accessibility report.

The module or organisation staff (6) displays a list of staff enrolled as instructors or leaders.

Student Preview (7) allows you to view and participate in the site as if you were enrolled as a student. You can use this option to check the visibility of content and try out activities.

Module or organisation settings (8) allow you to change the availability of your site.
