What is a Digital Identity?

What is a Digital Identity?

This video was originally made to support a course on Digital Capability, to explain what a digital identity is, and how to make yours more effective.

Eric Stoller is a leading higher ed expert in how technology can be used for student engagement, recruitment, retention, and well-being. He was a keynote speaker at one of our Social Media in Higher Education conferences but the audio here was taken from a much longer interview from the University of Derby.

Used with permission, key sentences were selected and edited together to summarise the concept. Because the edited video was so choppy we chose to animate the words on screen within Adobe Premiere Pro and a plug-in animation package that animates text.

Above is the video on 'What is Digital Identity'.

Potential Use Cases

  • It is useful for disseminating information in an engaging way.
  • It can be used for instructional videos, summarising concepts and communicating key messages.

The approach of animating text can be useful for real student voices and extracts from audio interviews, while maintaining anonymity.

Timescales

This video took about two weeks to complete.

Client Involvement

The Digital Learning Team identified the need for this resource so it was mostly developed by members of the team, in-house.

Feedback from key stakeholders was incorporated and copyright approval was sought from the University of Derby and from Eric Stoller, who approved the final version to be shared publicly.
