Sharing a sample with EE

Sharing a sample with EE

In Blackboard Classic it was possible to make a smart view link in the Control Panel for external examiners to access the sample of student work. These instructions cover how to set up something similar with Blackboard Ultra.

Step 1 - Set up a group which contains the students in your sample

In Blackboard Ultra you will need to set up a Group Set which contains a single group, ensuring all your students are added to that group. You may want to name the group something like External Examiner Sample

Follow the instructions on this page: Creating a group set manually to do this

The next two steps are optional.

You can either give the external examiner instructions on how to access the filtered group (instructions based on part 2) or you can set up a direct link in the External Examiner area by following part 2 and 3.

Step 2 – Get a filtered link of the Gradebook for only that sample group.

A. In your module Blackboard site, click on Gradebook
B. Select the section ‘Marks’ if it is not already selected

Items view of Grace Centre ribbon
C. Now select the Filter button on the right-hand side of the Gradebook. A small options pane will come out from the right.
D. Select Search by Group.
E. Select your sample group from the list and you should see that only those students are displayed in the grid on the left now.
F. Copy the URL of this current view.

Step 3 – Add the URL to your external examiner folder so your External Examiner can access it.

A. Click on Content in your Blackboard site.
B. Browse to where your External Examiners folder is and expand it by selecting it.  In the standard template that is in the Staff and External Examiners Area.
C. Select the + under the folder, choosing Create.
D. In the pane that opens on the right, choose Link.
E. Enter a Display Name such as Link to sample student work and feedback.
F. In the Link URL, paste the URL you copied in Part 2.
G. Click Save.

The link should now be in the expected place for the external examiner to help them quickly access the student sample, but be sure to check it works for you.

Note: the External Examiners area should be kept unavailable to students.
