Monitoring Student Use of Blackboard

Blackboard has a tool for monitoring student engagement in your Blackboard site, including the last access, time spent in the site and any missed due dates (note this ignores extensions). To access this tool inside a Blackboard site, look for the Analytics tab at the top of the site.

In the Blackboard Analytics tool you can set alerts for specific criteria (e.g. students that haven't logged into the site in the last two weeks), to help you see where groups of students meet that criteria quickly. Access this option in the top right under Alert Settings. The tool can also be used to send messages to students who meet the criteria.

You can also use the Gradebook to monitor engagement with tasks like formative quizzes.

The Jisc Learning Analytics system is also helpful for monitoring student engagement with Blackboard compared to peers, and with monitoring late or non-submission to Blackboard, as well as attendance.
