Sarah Haywood Small
Dr Sarah Haywood-Small is an Associate Head in the School of Biosciences and Chemistry at Sheffield Hallam University and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. With over 15 years in higher education, she has led strategic initiatives that significantly enhance student engagement and satisfaction while conducting cancer research focused on pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment.
Sarah's teaching spans diverse programmes from Biosciences to Nursing and Healthcare Professions, including Degree Apprenticeships. She collaborates with Elsevier to create digital learning content for the Ross & Wilson textbook and delivers international seminars on the Complete Anatomy platform. Her expertise has earned multiple Inspirational Teaching Awards and the Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching.
As a founding member of the University's Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Network, Sarah integrates research into undergraduate and postgraduate curricula while promoting inclusivity and academic excellence. Her work exemplifies Sheffield Hallam's commitment to innovative pedagogy and real-world impact.
