Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Projects

SoTL projects are available to everyone interested in improving their LTA approaches and sharing those results with others. Hallam colleagues can now apply for funding to support their project work. More details can be found on the College SharePoint sites. Project proposals can be made using this online form 

Current funded projects for 2025/2026

Alan Donnelly and Sally Billau: Evaluation of the ‘Future Now: Collaboration In Action’ module (Sheffield Creative Industries Institute)

This SoTL projects aims to explore how the approach to applied learning and teaching within the Future Now  ‘Collaboration in Action’ module (level 5) has contributed to student success, specifically exploring impact on students beyond the learning outcomes and future graduate outcomes. Future Now aims to involve undergraduate students in project-based and learner-centred work experience within the curriculum that will develop them personally but also benefit the people of the city and region. This evaluation collected data in early 2025 and aims to report around May/June 2025.

Ester Ehiyazaryan-White, Fufy Demissie, Julia Sexton: Using linguistic landscaping to support students’ understanding of young children’s communication (Sheffield Institute of Education)

This SoTL project aims to explore how creative methods such as linguistic landscaping can be used to support students’ understanding of young children’s language and communication. It specifically explores how research informed teaching can be embedded to support students’ learning and the role of learning in authentic real-world contexts, central to their module content. This project will start in January 2026 when the module is delivered to level 4 students, and aims to report in June/July 2026.
