This article provides an overview of how to take attendance using Jisc learning analytics system.
You take attendance by providing students with a 6-digit Event Code. In Jisc learning analytics, registers are called Events. You can take attendance in three ways: 1) For timetable, module activity; 2) For non-timetabled, module activity; and 3) non-timetabled, non-module activity.
For any events linked to the module (options 1 and 2 as above), you must be enrolled as an Instructor on the module Blackboard site.
Events are not linked to you individually. Events are linked to the module. This means that you will be able to see all timetabled taught activity for the modules you are linked to in Events.
1) Timetabled, module activity
These event registers are pre-populated in two weeks in advance within the Jisc learning analytics system. This means that the Event Code you provide for students will be supplied to you two weeks prior to you teaching. The events can be found in Events in the side menu. Only students enrolled on the module can log their attendance.
2) Non-timetabled, module activity
Since these are not timetabled, you will need to create this event within the Jisc learning analytics system and link the event to your module. Only students enrolled on the module can log their attendance. Be aware that when you create an event linked to a module, you can either attach the entire module cohort to the event register in Jisc learning analytics or have no students attached. You create an event by selecting Non-Timetabled Events in the side menu. Once you have created the event, the event can be found in Events in the side menu.
3) Non-timetabled, non-module activity
You can create an event that is not linked to the module. This means that any student at Sheffield Hallam (with minor exceptions) can log their attendance using this method. You create an event by selecting Non-Timetabled Events in the side menu. Once you have created the event, the event can be found in Events in the side menu.
