Portfolio Task Submissions

Portfolio Task Submissions

A portfolio assessment task consists of different elements which are brought together to form the holistic portfolio task. For example, one portfolio task could have three elements:

  1. A 500 word lit review
  2. An artefact such as a “draft contract” based on a client based scenario they were given
  3. A summary piece, using feedback from client, and reference to their own development

We recommend using a single submission point for submission of all final elements of the portfolio task.  This could be a single submission point on Blackboard or a submission via a PebblePad workbook or ePortfolio. The submission point on Blackboard would typically be set up automatically for the whole task, based on the data in SITS. If you are using PebblePad, you will need to set up the submission space for PebblePad yourself as we are unable to set those up automatically.

Extensions are provided at the portfolio task level as a whole, so having separate submission points and deadlines for different elements can be confusing for students if they apply for an extension.

Considerations for marking and giving feedback

You may wish to offer qualitative feedback on each element in the portfolio, and use indicative language from the University Grade Descriptors (Revised UGD3). For example, if element 1 is of "2:1" standard then use phrases such as "very good". If any elements of the portfolio receive early formative feedback, those could be submitted to a separate formative submission point in Blackboard, then resubmitted to the task submission point for final marking. PebblePad can facilitate this approach as auto-submission means that you can see the portfolio grow as elements are added over time.

Marks should be given at the portfolio task level, following the Revised UGD3. Marks should not be given to specific elements of a portfolio.
