What is LinkedIn Learning?
LinkedIn Learning (previously Lynda.com) is an online educational platform that helps students discover and develop creative, technology-related and study skills through expert-led course videos. Each course is broken down into a series of short videos that are easy to follow. Some courses in LinkedIn Learning provide students with a certificate that they can post to their LinkedIn profile. Courses cover areas such as multimedia, project management, programming languages and research techniques.
Areas where you can support students with LinkedIn Learning:
- Employability skills: suggest courses that are relevant to their profession.
- Study Skills: support student skills with guidance.
- IT Skills: develop students technical skills by sharing resources that are required for the course.
- Additional Resource: provide extra content covering key themes and subjects.
- Certification/CVs: students can evidence their skills for future employers.
- LinkedIn Learning has a wealth of courses that staff could use for their own development.
How to access LinkedIn Learning?

How to integrate in Blackboard?
You can integrate whole LinkedIn Learning courses, and deep-link to relevant content from LinkedIn Learning courses, in your Blackboard sites.
Curator Role
The Curator role lets you create and share learning paths. You will be required to actively curate the courses to ensure that they are suitable for students to use. With the Curator role, you can also view analytics of content that you have created and access/edit and delete content.
The three features of the Curator role are:
- Learning paths: a sequential way of presenting content provided by LinkedIn Learning and that you have uploaded. It’s ideal if you want students to work through content in a certain order. When sharing a learning path, it’s important that you use the ‘Share via link’ option which is available in your LinkedIn Learning library.
- Collections: a way of collating courses that are available in LinkedIn Learning and placing them together.
- Custom collection: content that you have uploaded that can be used in your learning paths.
To get the Curator role assigned to your account contact: digitallearning@shu.ac.uk. After you have been assigned the Curator role you will receive an email from LinkedIn Learning, select the “Get Started” option in the email to start using the Curator role.
