Episode 4 - Digital Learning

Dr. Alison Purvis
Associate Dean Learning, Teaching and Student Success in the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences.
Alison has been passionate about learning and teaching innovation for over 20 years and much of that time spent working on digitally enhanced learning and inclusive practice. A self-confessed digital nerd, Alison is interested in how technology can be used to give students a great learning experience in the physical and virtual classroom. Having confident and happy staff are critical to a great student experience, and Alison’s work has been characterised by a focus on supporting staff to build confidence, try things new, and develop new ideas in learning and teaching practice. Alison was the business lead for the Delivery Models project and is leading the Digital Learning Transformation. She is also a co-founder of the community-owned Social Media for Learning in HE Conference which celebrated its 10th year back at Sheffield Hallam in 2024.

Pete Mella
Pete is a Principal Learning Technologist in Digital Education and Service Development. In this role he works with academic colleagues to develop the pedagogical use of digital technology. His interests and experience include electronic portfolios, digital assessment, VLE course design and staff development of digital skills.
Pete has worked in Higher Education for 18 years, previously working as a Learning Technologist at the University of Sheffield.
