Internationalisation and international student experience are often mistaken for being the same thing, in this episode we have three experts helping us identify the differences and similarities of these topics. Join Bee Gan, Iain Garner and Natalie Haynes as they share their knowledge and experience of these exciting topics.

Associate Director, Global Engagement, Directorate of Global Engagement

Bee is an accomplished academic leader with extensive experience in international education and curriculum development. She has led initiatives to enhance internationalisation-at-home and collaborative online learning. She is committed to ensuring that global learning is not a privilege, but a right for students.

With 20 years in higher education, Bee has led interdisciplinary projects across Europe, the USA, Africa, and Asia, fostering global engagement in education. She is also an active member of CANIE contributing to climate action and international pedagogy. Her work integrates sustainability, digital learning, and cross-cultural academic collaboration.

Natalie Haynes

Dr. Natalie Haynes

Division Head, Sheffield Business School

Natalie has held a variety of academic leadership roles before becoming Division Head in 2024 covering recruitment, employability and international partnerships.

Natalie completed a PhD in 2019 that examined the impacts of big data on hotel price decision-making and contributes regularly to key journals in the hospitality and events field with an emphasis on hotel revenue management, revenue management in alternative sectors and leadership.

Before entering academia, she had a successful career in hotel sales, marketing and revenue management, holding positions with three major brands and independent hotels in London and the regions.

Iain Garner

Iain Garner

As Executive Dean of College (Social Sciences and Arts), Iain provides senior leadership and the overall strategic direction for the college.

The college is constructed from four large academic institutes: Sheffield Institute of Law and Justice, Sheffield Institute of Education, Sheffield Institute of Social Sciences and Sheffield Creative Industries Institute.

Iain is also the Executive Lead for Teaching and Learning across the University. Iain is passionate about teaching and learning and the development of teaching and learning skills in fellow academics. Across the last 15 years Iain has worked with doctoral students and new academics developing their understanding of pedagogy and its position in their academic career. Sharing his passion so they too can develop their students’ effective engagement with learning.
