Professor Earle Abrahamson

Professor Earle Abrahamson is a distinguished academic leader in the field of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). He holds a PhD in SoTL and serves as Professor and Head of Anatomy at the Hertfordshire Medical School, University of Hertfordshire, UK. Originally from South Africa, his career spans diverse cultural, institutional, and international contexts. Throughout this journey, he has consistently championed student-centred approaches and the holistic development of learners.

His leadership in SoTL is demonstrated through roles such as Co-Chair of the ISSOTL Advocacy Committee, convenor of international and EuroSoTL writing groups, and membership of the EuroSoTL Board, where he contributes to advancing SoTL across Europe and globally.

As Co-Editor of Teaching and Learning Inquiry (TLI), the flagship journal of ISSOTL, Professor Abrahamson has played a central role since its inception. He helps to shape the journal’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with the ISSOTL Grand Challenges and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. His sustained contributions to teaching and learning have been recognised through Principal and National Teaching Fellowships from Advance HE, as well as the inaugural ISSOTL Fellowship.
