Degree Awarding Gap

This resource has been designed to help you to understand more about the Degree Awarding Gap, between white and racially minoritised students, the causes of the gap, and what can be done to reduce and eradicate the gap.

For 2021/22 at Sheffield Hallam University, the percentage of white students graduating with good honours degrees was 79.5% and the percentage of racially minoritised students graduating with good honours was 64.2%. This means that the attainment gap at Hallam is -15.3 percentage points. 

We believe all students should have access to equal opportunities in a fair, inclusive environment. Our dedicated Academic Development and Inclusion Team works with university staff and students to deliver targeted actions to reduce the gap. These include improving institutional processes, enhancing the knowledge and skills of staff and students, and providing better support.
