Support Available

Based on the success of the support model for Principal Fellowship, and changes in staffing resource, we are moving to a new model of supporting staff through the process of submitting for an application for all levels of Fellowship (D1-4).

Cohort Model

Our support is offered through a cohort-based approach. Feedback from our participants to date in D4 (which has been doing cohorts already) unanimously agrees that the positive nature of forming a supportive cohort is helpful for achieving a successful outcome.

Our support programme is designed for a minimum of 3 and maximum of 15 participants per cohort on a six monthly rolling programme, depending on demand. Candidates who are unable to complete as planned or are unsuccessful will have the opportunity to join the next available cohort if there is space.

Cohorts will be led by staff experienced with our Fellowship application process, who have attained Senior or Principal Fellowship.

How do I register for a cohort?

Timings for cohorts being launched and expressions of interest forms will be advertised via Academic Digest. Ahead of registering for a cohort, all staff should complete the Advance HE Category tool to ensure they apply for the correct cohort. You must secure support from your line manager and use your Research & Scholarly Activity (RSA) time for engagement with the cohort.

Once a cohort starts, a cohort lead can recommend to the scheme lead that a candidate changes to a different cohort if it is felt they are not applying for the correct level of Fellowship.

What support happens in a cohort?

Your cohort lead will talk to you about the support available in more detail, but at a minimum cohorts should provide:

  • An induction session outlining scheme expectations and the application process
  • Two scheduled group writing retreats
  • A peer community to support each othe, share ideas and provide peer feedback
  • The cohort lead as a key point of contact and support

Support may be provided face-to-face, hybrid or online - depending on the needs of the cohort.

Note: your cohort lead will use their experience to guide and advise you towards a successful outcome. However your lead will not be reviewing your final application in the decision-making process, and it is possible the panel may not award despite your cohort lead believing you would be successful.
