Using Clipboard History

How to use your clipboard history when working on copy and paste based tasks.

[Transcription of the above video]

If you’ve ever had to transfer lots of text from one place to another, you’ll know how fiddly it is to copy them, paste, then copy them, paste repeatedly. Switching on clipboard history means you can copy up to 25 items. You can then select and paste them in any order elsewhere.

You can even paste across devices if you sign into your Microsoft account and use the settings sync across your devices.

First things first, you need to enable clipboard history. The quickest way to do this is to press the Windows key and V at the same time. This opens up this dialogue box and you select [Turn On].

Alternatively you could type clipboard settings into your desktop search bar and then make sure clipboard history is switched on.

Now it’s switched on. You can copy away as normal by selecting the text in either [Control] and [c] key or the Copy button in the toolbar of most Microsoft applications.

This works when copying from web pages to Word documents, from social media posts to emails, PDF’s to spreadsheets and vice versa. It works with text and images, so copy what you need then paste it in whatever order you like into the required location.

To paste, you use Windows logo key and the V key.

This pops up a clipboard that contains the 25 most recently copied items since the device was last switched on.

You simply select which of your copied items you want to paste next by clicking on that item in the clipboard history.

Once you’ve reached the 25 item capacity, the oldest items you’ve copied roll off the end, meaning you have continuous capacity.

You just need to paste what you need before it disappears.

You can even pin items you don’t want to disappear. These will sustain even after rebooting the device.

So in brief, once you’ve switched on the feature, it’s just a matter of copying up to 25 items, then [Windows key] and [c] and selecting which to paste.
