Moving Panopto Videos from Blackboard Classic to Ultra

How to move your Panopto videos from a Blackboard classic site to a Blackboard Ultra site.

[Transcription of the above video]

Hello, my name’s John. I’m a learning technologist in the Digital Learning team at Hallam.

As we all get ready for the migration of our Blackboard sites from Classic to Ultra. This is a timely video to teach you how to copy Panopto video from your Blackboard Classic site to your Blackboard Ultra site.

You can record Panopto video straight from Blackboard itself. That’s the Digital Learning team’s recommended method for adding up a Panopto video to your Blackboard site. We recommend recording video in this way because by doing it like that, video files are stored on that module or organisation site, so they’ll have the correct permissions and access for all the students and staff enrolled on the site.

However, it isn’t possible to connect to copy Panopto our video from within one module or organisation site to another module or organisation site solely from Blackboard itself. That’s just because Panopto videos you create don’t actually live in Blackboard. The video files are stored within Panopto and Blackboard simply links to it.

Part one

Select and copy videos from your Classic site to your Ultra site.

You can access Panopto from either the Panopto Windows application or through your browser. If you’re using the Panopto’s Windows application, click [Manage Recordings], then [Manage My Recordings]. This will take you to the web version of Panopto.

In the web version of Panopto or click on Browse, then in the search bar type in the name of the module or organisation site that you wish to copy videos from.

Now select the name of the site from the displayed options.

Simply select the videos that you’d like to copy by clicking the white check box in the top left corner of each video thumbnail,

Then click Copy, which is to the right of the delete button.

Then type in the name of the site, your Ultra site, in the search bar.

Now select that from the options, then hit copy.

Your selected video should now have copied successfully to your new Ultra Blackboard site.

You can now close your Panopto tab and go to your new Blackboard Ultra site

Part 2

Embed Panopto videos in your Ultra site

There are different ways of embedding your Panopto videos in your Ultra site. One way is to select the plus symbol where on the stream you want the video to appear.

Click Integrated Tools,

Then Panopto Video Embed.

Simply select the video that you would like to embed and click insert.

Another way is to click on the plus symbol and click create.

Then select document

And then add content.

Then you can add a title

Add any links, attachments, or images.

With this method you can also add text to explain the context and purpose of the video and to point to any activities that you’d like them to do.

To embed your Panopto video from here, click Add Content, which is the plus symbol in the circle at the far right of the toolbar.

Then click Integrated Tools,

Then Panopto Video Embed.

The videos you copied from your classic site to your ultra site should appear. By default. The folder displayed will be the folder associated with that module or organisation site.

You can only add one video each time. To do this, click in the circle to the left of the video thumbnail that you want to embed, then click Insert.

Click Insert again to set a date stamp.

Now click Save.

To view your organisation content, simply click the cross

Part 3

Moving to the correct folder on your organisation content.

Drag and drop the content into the folder that you wish it to go in. It should nest underneath and be slightly indented.

If you wish to make the item visible to students, then click the drop down arrow just underneath the item name and change to visible.

You will need to do this for the folder and the item itself.

To check this works, we’ll view this on student preview mode.

So there you go. Now you know how to copy Panopto video from your Blackboard Classic site to your Blackboard Ultra site. If you would like further support or guidance through this, contact the Digital Learning team.
