Learning Analytics

Learning Analytics

A student's engagement with their teaching to support their learning is essential to ensure they are able to achieve and succeed. With this in mind, the Sheffield Hallam University supports students using learning analytics data. This data provides a picture of engagement that helps us to understand how to best support the student to meet their goals and achieve their full potential at Sheffield Hallam University.

At Hallam, we use Jisc Learning Analytics to enable us to capture student engagement data in a consistent way. Our Student Support Triangle uses the data to help students in a one-by-one role, whilst our Student Success & Engagement Team monitor student's engagement across the university to ensure that all students are offered help and support where needed.

We want all users of Jisc Learning Analytics to be confident in the use of the software, as well as the interpretation of the data. Colleagues can visit our SharePoint site for user guides, training, or additional support.

Attendance & Engagement

The University’s Student Engagement Policy clearly sets out expectations in terms of attendance and engagement and identifies processes whereby students who are not engaging can be offered support in an efficient way across a range of roles and services.

Attendance monitoring will be done through JISC Learning Analytics. This is mandated at the postgraduate taught, undergraduate, and apprenticeship provision since 2023/24 academic year.

Colleagues that have never used JISC Learning Analytics are encouraged to review user guides or register for training
